Interactive and Virtual Visits
We’ve been working to develop a more interactive experience for visitors to the Avalon Marshes, so visitors can make the most of their visit whether online or on site. Visitors can explore the area through a host of digital technologies.
These developments tie in with the ambition to enable more people to access nature easily, and to break down perceived barriers to visiting nature reserves that might otherwise deter those new to nature visiting. Get the most out a visit by by using our digital resources to familiarise yourself with a location before visiting. Use them to revisit a location or use them to share a location with your friends.
You’ll also find new interpretation signs at Westhay Moor and Catcott National Nature Reserves (NNR), feature QR codes, when scanned, allowing visitors to access digital stories about the area from their smartphones.
A Digital Visitor Experience
This includes a range of content for all levels of knowledge, including spotter guides, interactive trails, and live webcams that allow visitors to see the less accessible parts of the reserve and wildlife that is not always in view from the bird hides. These new interactive opportunities for visitors are linked to the ‘Digital Reserve’ we are in the process of developing. As well as visiting the Avalon Marshes, people can also connect to the virtual tours , virtual hides and webcams we’ve been busy developing. The digital reserve provides an online window into the Avalon Marshes all from your computer or device.

The ‘Virtual Reserves’ are part of a very special landscape that is always changing, so we are continually learning. With the new digital platform we can provide up to date, accessible information for all levels so people can get more out of their visit and want to come back and secondly; for those completely new to nature, visiting a nature reserve as a next step to developing their nature connecting can be daunting.
