Alice Vincent, Stephen Moss and Mya-Rose Craig will be in conversation about unlikely places where nature can thrive.
Stephen Moss, President of the Somerset Wildlife Trust, writes about these little oases around us in The Accidental Countryside. These havens, where wild creatures can thrive, add up to an area larger than all our nature reserves put together. Stephen will also give us a sneak preview of his ‘biography’ of a year in the life of a swallow, available in October.
For Alice Vincent the memory of her grandfather’s garden led to her passion for planting: on windowsills, draining boards, in short until every nook was filled with green. Mixing memoir, botanical history and biography, Rootbound examines how bringing the outside inside can help us find our feet in a world spinning far too fast.
Mya-Rose Craig, whose blog Birdgirl is hugely popular, has been a campaigner for wildlife and conservation since early childhood. The youngest person ever to hold an Honorary Doctorate in Science, she is only 18 yet has appeared on a variety of platforms, including Springwatch. She lives in Somerset and is President of Black2Nature, an organisation which promotes equal access to nature. Her upcoming memoir ‘Birdgirl’ explores her love of birds and move into environmental and racial activism, and recently sparked a 14-way auction among publishers!
You can buy tickets to attend the event in person in Wells, or register to livestream the event for FREE to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
