Walk with Wardens – Bearded Tit Bonanza

Join us for a 3-hour tour to discover the delights of autumn with our wardening team at RSPB Ham Wall. The autumn migration will be in full swing, so who knows what might turn up, and October is a great time of year to catch up with the delightful bearded tit. With exclusive access to parts of the reserve normally closed to visitors, absorb the sights and sounds of the reedbed as autumn creeps in, find the wildlife hidden within and learn more about the varied reserve management work that goes on behind the scenes.

RSPB Ham Wall is a special place teeming with amazing wildlife, panoramic views and the sound of the reeds swaying in the wind all year round. Not only that, the Avalon Marshes are one of, if not the best place in the country to see bittern, with approximately one fifth of the UK’s population of booming males recorded here in 2022.  Bittern are just one of the five heron species you might see in a day at Ham Wall – great white egret are a regular fixture, cattle egret bred here in 2017 (the first time on an RSPB reserve), grey herons nest in the reeds and little egrets can be seen fishing around the edges. With migration in progress we expect to catch up with late staying summer visitors, early winter arrivals and birds passing through to other parts.

As well as the chance to see some of the fantastic wildlife that Ham Wall has to offer, you will also learn about the work the staff and volunteer team undertakes managing, surveying and protecting this special landscape and this is your opportunity to go behind the scenes to areas not normally accessible to visitors. All of this makes for an unmissable experience so why not book your place on this exclusive tour (numbers are limited) to join our wardening team today.  To book a place please click on the following https://events.rspb.org.uk/events/20690
